ILAC- Institute for Latin American Concern
Dr. Sebastian Guzman, MD, is the leader of the ophthalmic surgery project at the Institute for Latin American Concern, outside of Santiago, Dominican Republic. ILAC is a Jesuit Mission run in coordination with Creighton University. Dr. Guzman works closely with Dr. Greg Rosenthal of Vision Associates to provide the latest technology in the care of complex diabetic and other retinal diseases. Thanks to the generous donation of the necessary equipment by Alcon Systems and supporting resources from Bausch and Lomb, Iridex Lasers, OTI Systems of Canada, Dutch Ophthalmic Research, and ProMedica Health Systems, we have been able to perform over 300 major surgeries since 2007 for patients with severe retinal problems and no other access to retinal care. We have also been able to bring patients with more emergent and complex problems to Toledo for care. With continued outside support, we hope and plan to continue this program and expand services as resources and donations permit.
